KUALA LUMPUR: The 2022 Asia Optometric Congress concluded yesterday, November 16, at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The two-day event featured plenary sessions and workshops by industry experts as well as leading brands like Johnson & Johnson Vision.

In an interview with the New Straits Times, Johnson & Johnson Vision area vice-president of APAC (Vision Care), Vaibhav Saran, said sight is the most precious sense, yet poor eye health has reached epidemic proportions. The company is invested in continued innovation to address this and redefine healthy sight for life.

According to the World Health Organisation, 2.2 billion people in the world live with vision impairment – nearly half of which could have been prevented or have yet to be treated.

Johnson & Johnson Vision’s ambition is to change the trajectory of eye health worldwide.

The company is at the forefront of research, science and technology to deliver the best outcomes for patients across a lifetime of eye health needs.

CONTACT LENS INNOVATION

An example of Johnson & Johnson Vision’s latest eye health innovation is its exclusive Hydraluxe technology for contact lenses.

This contact lens contains tear-like properties that work with the eye’s natural tear film.

In terms of beauty innovation, the lens has textured design finishes that mimic the design of the iris.

Saran explained how users can experience all-day comfort, clear vision and easy handling with this new contact lens, which provides the highest level of UV protection.

MEETING EYE HEALTH NEEDS

Johnson & Johnson Vision works closely with governments and the eye health industry to showcase its latest innovation to cater to existing or unmet needs.

One initiative is Sight For Kids, a programme co-founded by Johnson & Johnson Vision and Lions Clubs International Foundation. This vision-screening programme enables underserved communities to have access to eye care.

It has engaged more than 200,000 teachers, visually screened over 42 million students, helped 600,000 students receive additional treatments and surgeries from eye care professionals and provided 500,000 pairs of eyeglasses to children.

Saran hoped that the company’s sponsorship and active participation in the 2022 Asia Optometric Congress supports practitioners and advances the next generation of optometrists in Asia Pacific.

Customers can also enjoy a digital, personalised experience and make eye examination appointments or purchase contact lenses through the MyAcuvue app.
