September: Full Harvest Moon
When is the next Harvest Moon? September 10, 2022
Why is it called the Harvest Moon? Well, for one, this is the usual time for harvesting corn. And usually, the Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the fall equinox (which falls on September 22 this year). The Harvest Moon will come earlier this year, though, even before the equinox.
What else is it called? The September moon is called the Autumn Moon, Child Moon, Falling Leaves Moon, Mating Moon, or the Moon When the Rice is Laid Up to Dry. (I’m sorry, but these hyper-specific names will never not be hilarious to me—truly a simpler, more admirable time.)
