Through five decades of excellence in nursing education, the Holy Family University School of Nursing & Health Sciences has earned a reputation as a perennial leader in regional healthcare in Greater Philadelphia. In fact, the School of Nursing & Health Sciences has conferred degrees on more than 6,000 graduates over this 50-year span, turning out nurses who now care, research, teach and advocate as leaders of distinction in the fields of health and health care delivery locally, regionally, and nationally. The collective excellence, prominence, and sustained commitment of Holy Family nursing graduates results from a forward-thinking, focused learning curriculum and cutting-edge technology delivered by accomplished faculty experts and mentors. Superior clinical and teaching resources, and meaningful community-based experiences, further strengthen the Holy Family experience. Holy Family University nurses have been trained to be critical thinkers, collaborators, and ultimately successful patient-centered care professionals capable of far-reaching service.
Along with the knowledge, practical application, and tangible skills that are prerequisites for nursing success, the heart of a nurse is perhaps the most important, immeasurable quality that Holy Family University works to nurture and develop. Beyond providing care and solutions in often difficult circumstances, our nurses invest emotionally in their patients and patients’ families, in their colleagues and in the profession. It is often difficult, challenging, life-changing work. Holy Family’s nursing program develops individuals who are not only competent, capable and confident, but also invested in and committed to a caring cause and the mission of service to the human family. The nursing faculty foster a holistic experience educating nurses with a focus on mind, body, soul, and heart.
“The product that Holy Family University puts out into society has to be stellar,” said Dean of the School of Nursing & Health Sciences Margaret Harkins, DNP, MBE, MSN, GNP-BC, RN-BC. “As a nurse, you need to know what you are doing. We need to develop nurses who are able to handle so many emotional things, who can deal with anxiety and tension and also the physical challenges of the job. Our students need to know that the nursing profession has a long-standing commitment to healing and helping and putting your hand out when someone is on the ground and at their worst.”
To that end, Holy Family University offers a comprehensive, accredited and nationally ranked nursing program where undergraduates begin as novices, and graduate students progress to experts. Our programs are ideal for high school graduates, experienced nurses seeking additional training, or working adults who wish to pivot to an entirely new career. Holy Family’s programs are built to address ever-evolving and in-demand healthcare needs, as well as to advance nursing careers. All of our programs have flexible options suited for both full-and part-time students.
Nursing students enrolling as undergraduates can choose from a traditional BSN program, a second degree fast-track day program, a second-degree part-time evening and weekend 22-month track program, and a second degree distance/hybrid track, as well as an RN to BSN program and a perioperative nursing certificate. Graduate-level students can pursue degrees in an MSN program or a DNP program.
As Holy Family’s distinguished Nursing program prepares for the next 50 years of excellence in nursing education, the School is proud to provide innovation in the classroom and in practice, and to shape students to become change agents and difference-makers in the nursing profession.
