If you’re on the hunt for a new signature scent but don’t feel like paying top dollar, then know that the rest of the UK is with you. Searches for ‘affordable perfumes that smell expensive’ are up by 100% in the past 12 months while Adli’s new fragrances that are 98% cheaper than their luxury counterparts, are doing a roaring trade.
The latest affordable scent that’s doing the rounds on TikTok? ‘Avon’s £16 Far Away Beyond The Moon’. Beauty creators are conducting blind scent tests of the new high-street scent before revealing the very reasonable price tag to shocked friends and family.
Influencer, Leanne Chapman, gained over 3 million views on her blind test video, during which her husband made a scent-based estimate that the fragrance would be priced at £80.
Therese Ryan also tried the test out on her partner, with the video racking up 2.4 million views. He guessed the perfume would be worth more than £100 – a similar price tag to Dior perfumes including Miss Dior and Pure Poison.
The reason Far Away Beyond The Moon is being mistaken for a five times the price is likely down to the fact that Avon worked with luxury fragrance house Givaudan, who’s perfumers are known for creating iconic fragrances such as Dior’s J’adore by Dior and Prada’s Paradoxe.
The scent, which is inspired by the mystery of the moon, contains notes of sandalwood and cherry, which are also found in fragrances such as Floris Cherry Intense and Tom Ford.
Avon fans were quick to comment on the brand’s own IG Reel that depicts a blind smell test being carried out on the public. Gina_jxx 8w said ‘Just ordered this after having a sample and it is so lush!’ while liliyasbeauty commented ‘Such a fantastic scent 👍👍👍’
