What to expect: Pioneer beat No. 5 Iroquois, 23-0, in the quarterfinals in a rematch of last year’s final and No. 8 South Park, 42-22, in the semifinals. Health Sciences/BASC/Charter beat No. 6 Depew, 46-0, in the quarterfinals and No. 2 Maryvale, 14-0, in the semifinals.
Pioneer is looking to win its first sectional title since 2001 and is making its third finals appearance since 2018. Health Sciences/BASC/Charter is a first-year program. Health Sciences formerly was in a joint program with WNY Maritime, winning three consecutive sectional titles in 2019, ’20 and ’21.
The Panthers are led by Dalton Giboo, who had 1,462 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns on 152 carries and has 280 receiving yards and three scores. Quarterback Gavin Schwab has thrown for 1,063 yards and has 20 touchdowns with just one interception.

“We’re happy because last year we felt like we were a year ahead,” Pioneer coach Jim Duprey said. “This year, it feels like it’s right for us to go back and have a rematch with Health Sciences. We’re excited for the opportunity and it’s never fun to play a team twice.”
Health Sciences beat Pioneer 26-18, on Sept. 22, scoring in the final moments to take the lead and then used a defensive stand to preserve the win.
The Falcons rely on the rushing game of Antwan Ceasar, with team-highs in carries (138), rushing yards (1,372) and touchdowns (17) and a whopping 9.9 yards per carry. At quarterback, Shamere Banks runs the offense. Banks has 1,236 passing yards and 17 touchdowns.
“It’s a blessing to be back here,” coach Ty Parker said. “This is just showing we’re heading in the right direction with our football program. I’m proud of our guys and my coaching staff. They put in so much work with these guys that makes my job easier and I’m so appreciative of the players of the past to help us get to this point. It’s an honor to play at the Bills’ stadium.”
