450 women turn up for physical test

PATNA: After the men’s rallies for recruitment as Agniveers in the Army ended on November 30, altogether 450 shortlisted women candidates from 18 districts of the state turned up at the Danapur cantonment ground on the penultimate day on Saturday to show their physical fitness, stamina and ability to perform rigorous Army duty as Agniveer Women Military Police.
According to Danapur zonal Army recruitment director Col Karan Mehta, the women candidates were allowed to take part in the 1.6-km-long race, 10 feet long jump and 3 feet high jump. Those who qualified the physical fitness test have been asked to undergo medical fitness test on Sunday, he said. A team of Danapur military women doctors has been assigned the task to conduct medical fitness of the successful candidates.
To ensure safety to women and provide the basic required facilities, the Patna district administration extended full cooperation to the Danapur Army zonal recruitment officials and deployed adequate number of women police in the cantonment area. Thus, women participants were safely escorted to the cantonment area and later they were dropped at Saguna Mor after the physical test, Col Mehta said.
According to him, the Danapur zonal recruitment centre would hold rallies for the shortlisted women candidates from Jharkhand as well as from 20 other districts of Bihar on the last day on Sunday.
The Agniveer recruitment process started from April 17 to 26 this year in which about 23 lakh candidates took part in the online common entrance examination (CEE) across the country. Those who passed the CEE have been shortlisted to appear at the physical test to complete the recruitment process, sources said.
