Eye doctors fly to Africa

This fall, two UC Davis doctors flew across the globe with Orbis International to fight avoidable blindness and bring sight-saving surgeries to communities with little access to eye health care.

James David Brandt and Jeffrey Caspar went aboard the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital — a traveling hospital aboard an MD-10 complete with classrooms, labs, and a fully functioning operating room — to bring education and sight-saving surgeries to Zambia. The team was able to examine 117 patients and perform 52 sight-saving surgeries.
