MUMBAI: As part of the ongoing Road Safety month, 163 taxi and autorickshaw drivers benefitted from a health and eye check up camp organised by Wadala RTO in which 56 were found to have eye related problems.
“It is very important for our drivers of public transport vehicles to have good vision and proper state of mind while ferrying commuters,” said Wadala RTO head Vinay Ahire.The camp was organised in association with the Shantilal Shanghvi Eye Institute, Wadala and the Mumbai Taximen’s Association. It was also attended by senior RTO officer Sandesh Chavan.
During examination, it was found that 21 drivers needed cataract operation and this will be provided free of cost to them. Seven drivers had some problem with the eye retina. During a health examination, 19 auto-taxi drivers were found to have high blood pressure while 15 were detected with diabetes. They will be provided with necessary medication, an official added.
