Bridgerton season 2 dropped in late March, and the gossip, scandals, and intrigue captivated Netflix viewers everywhere. Naturally, fans are already expecting more—and soon.

The biggest question is, of course, will there even be a season 3? But beyond that, there’s still a lot to unpack. Which Bridgerton sibling will be at the center of the season? Will more stars be joining the cast? And, even more exciting: Could new episodes be arriving sooner than fans think?

Plenty of spoilers are already floating around, faster than Lady Whistledown can put her pen to them. Here’s absolutely everything to know about Bridgerton season 3:

Netflix has officially renewed Bridgerton for a third season.

It’s true. The streaming service is bringing Bridgerton back for seasons 3 and 4, Lady Whistledown confirmed on Twitter in April 2021.

“Bridgerton swept us off our feet. The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members,” Netflix’s VP of Global TV Bela Bajaria explained in a statement.

“They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come.” (Thank goodness.)

Details about the plot of season 3 are still under wraps.

There isn’t any big news yet—but there’s plenty of guessing to do.

ICYMI, Bridgerton is based on a book series of the same name by author Julia Quinn. So far, seasons 1 and 2 have followed books 1 and 2, which means season 3 will probably match up with book 3.

Book 3 is titled An Offer From a Gentleman and follows Benedict Bridgerton, who is played by Luke Thompson in the series. So far, Benedict hasn’t seemed interested in settling down, but that could change next season.

“The books are the books, and the show is completely rooted in the books, but it’s not tied to the books,” Luke told Entertainment Weekly. The books would indicate that the next one up is Benedict, but we don’t know that for sure because the show is the show, and the show has license to do all sorts of things.”

“As long as Benedict keeps being explored, I’m happy,” he added.

Penelope and Colin could also be the stars of season 3.

Others suspect that season 3 will actually follow the plot of book 4, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which centers Benedict’s brother Colin and his romance with Penelope Featherington. Currently, Luke Newton plays Colin, while Nicola Coughlan plays Penelope.

Season 2 star Simone Ashley let it slip to E! News that she was “super excited for the world to see Nicola and Luke rock it” in future episodes.

The show’s creator Chris Van Dusen added, “We did a lot of work in these first two seasons as far as setting up Penelope and Colin’s love story. There’s so much yearning and so much angst there that it’s going to be really satisfying when the show gets to really focus on the two of them.”

On her part, Nicola said “I think [Penelope] still absolutely loves and adores the Bridgertons and wants to be one ultimately. It’s gonna be so interesting to see where she’s gonna go from here.”

Shonda Rhimes revealed that anything could happen in seasons 3 and 4.

Whether you’re rooting for Benedict or Colin, just know that the show’s executive producers still have a few tricks up their sleeves. “There’s eight Bridgerton siblings, so we’re planning on following each one of the siblings’ romantic stories,” Shonda Rhimes told Entertainment Tonight.

“We’re not necessarily going in order but we are going to be seeing each of the siblings and their stories,” she added. (Hmmm.)

But for now, the writers “got a little bit creative so we’re already hard at work writing season 3,” Rhimes said. “That is already in progress and you’ll see. Give it time.”

Stay tuned for more Bridgerton season 3 spoilers—and catch up on seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix, if you haven’t already.
