Minnesota State College Southeast has its grand opening of Nursing and Health Sciences Center

New nursing facility

RED WING, Minn. – Healthcare students at ‘Minnesota State College-Southeast’ are able to use an updated facility to help elevate their education within the industry.

The school had its grand opening on April 9- highlighting the new aspects of the Nursing and Health Sciences Center. It replicates a real hospital floor- providing these students with an accurate and safe space to learn about nursing and other healthcare jobs.

The center is complete with private patient rooms, a medication room, a nursing station, control rooms, and debriefing rooms. Staff tells us how students have responded to the center.

Dean of Nursing and Allied Health Dr. Carrie Travis says, “They really believe that this makes the experience of going to the hospital less intimidating because they have an understanding of basic procedures, safety practices, policies, and the use of technologies.”

Each space also has the ability to be recorded- giving students a unique learning experience to analyze and watch what they are doing during simulations and other situations. The college’s president tells us what this space means for the department.

President of Minnesota State College Southeast Dr. Marsha Danielson says, “It’s really important to have our students being prepared in a facility that mirrors what they will be doing when they get back out into the workforce.”

They also tell KIMT that t hey hope to grow the program in the future. This updated facility allows them to nearly double their class size for practical nursing and associate of science and nursing positions.

The school also offers entry level degrees within the field including trained medication aids and certified nursing assistants.
