RAPID CITY, S.D. – April is Women’s Eye Health and Safety Month. According to the National Eye Institute, women are more likely to experience vision problems and blindness than men.
The various reasons for this are hormonal changes of women during pregnancy and menopause. Additionally, women tend to live longer and, therefore, their eyes also go through the aging process.
The most common eye diseases are cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease.
Dr. Cory Bergman, medical doctor and surgeon with the Black Hills Regional Eye Institute, took time out of his busy schedule to explain women’s eye health issues and what can be done to prevent and possibly treat/cure these maladies.
