A new optometrist’s office in Greeley is bringing personalized service to community members of all ages.
Dr. Katie Bond, owner of Greeley Family Vision, offers a variety of services including diabetic eye exams, annual glasses and contact exams, macular degeneration exams and exams for issues like dry eyes or red eye and flashes or floaters.
“Any condition that is happening in your blood can show up in your eyeballs,” Bond said. “Sometimes we can see things like anemia, manifestations of cancers that can metastasize up into the eyes like lung or breast cancers.”
Bond also offers pediatric care including annual exams for glasses and contacts and free infant vision screenings for children ages 6 months up to 1 year.

Bond’s office features state-of-the-art equipment for detecting diseases, malformations, eye pressure and other issues associated with eye health. The equipment used to determine a person’s glasses or contact prescription has become more advanced and often can determine a patient’s prescription quicker and easier.
“The machines are more accurate, so it makes things more accurate when you are getting your glasses or contacts,” Bond said. “This is probably the most important thing for most patients. You come in having blurry vision, and you want as clear vision as you can get. This sets you up for as much success as you can.”
Patients can also choose from different in-house frames as well as a variety of contact lenses.
“There are tons of really, really awesome contact lenses on the market,” Bond said. “I have a lot of patients come in that say they tried contacts years ago but they didn’t work for them. It’s pretty rare that we can’t find a contact lens that works for people. The technology is changing so quickly, and there’s lots of cool new things.”

The office accepts a variety of insurance plans, and Bond is dedicated to making sure patients are aware of costs for services upfront.
“Our whole goal or plan is to be that trusted part of the community that allows for our patients to come here and feel comfortable enough that we are providing the right service for them and not just shuffling them through,” Bond said. “We don’t see 30 patients a day and everyone gets put into the same frames. Every patient is different, their needs are different, their budgets are different and we don’t want to treat you all the same.”
When searching for a location to open her practice, Bond noticed a lack of vision services in the heart of the city.
Greeley Family Vision is located at 1675 18th Ave., Suite 4, across from North Colorado Medical Center, in the building that formerly housed UCHealth’s oncology department.
“Even though the trend is to move west, it left a gap for people over here that just need a place relatively close to get their eyes checked,” she said. “In terms of location, this hopefully is pretty ideal. We are trying to buck the trend of being owned by one major conglomerate and still be that community clinic that patients know, and we care about our community and give back where we can.”

Bond, originally from Denver, moved to Greeley with her husband who is from the area. The couple will welcome their first child in a few weeks.
“I have slowly fallen in love with Greeley, and there’s so many cool things here. You just have to slow down enough to find them,” she said. “The Kress is the coolest place; we go there often. We spend a lot of time downtown.”
Bond is a graduate of Colorado State University and earned her doctorate of optometry from Southern College of Optometry. As a first-generation college graduate, Bond became interested in eye health and optometry after working in an optometrist’s office in Fort Collins.
“I loved helping identify what patients need and fit them in what is the most appropriate thing for them,” she said. “My whole goal and drive in undergrad and optometrist school was to be able to use these skills to help people in a tangible, immediate way.”

Bond has volunteered for OneSight International Missions in Malaysia, China and Chile. She also served as a volunteer vaccinator during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’m obsessed with eyeballs. They are very complicated structures,” she said with a laugh. “But they are so cool. And there’s not really a lot of blood, which is also nice.”
Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Friday. The office is closed on the weekends.
