As weight-loss medications become more popular, Nestlé Health Science wants to ensure that consumers who are taking the drugs have access to comprehensive nutritional support.

The global leader in nutrition science announced the launch of a platform designed to provide information for individuals on a weight management journey, including those using GLP-1 therapy, in a June 25 press release.

According to the subsidiary of Swiss food and beverage giant, Nestlé, the website offers nutrition information and product bundling options tailored to the unique needs of individuals, especially those on medications like Wegovy, Ozempic, Mounjaro and Rybelsus.

Those product focus areas include muscle preservation, gut health, micronutrient intake, hydration, skin and hair health and weight rebound management.

Nestlé Health Science has its global research and development hub in Bridgewater. It offers a wide range of advanced, science-based nutritional solutions for consumers, patients and health care professionals.

The company’s portfolio includes: Boost, Carnation Breakfast Essentials, Vital Proteins, Garden of Life and Nature’s Bounty. Additionally, it features pharmaceutical therapies to prevent, manage, and treat gastrointestinal and metabolic-related diseases.

Targeted solutions

The new website also offers expert nutrition insights and a community platform for individuals to share their experiences and support each other on their health journey. Users can link up with a nutrition coach for questions they have on diet, lifestyle and supplements, according to Nestlé Health Science.

Anna Mohl, chief executive officer of Nestlé Health Science, stated, “The launch of this new innovative tool marks an important step forward in the mission and focus of our business.”

“With this offering, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering healthier lives through targeted, personalized nutritional solutions. We are excited to continue redefining health and wellness solutions and enhancing the quality of life for those seeking effective weight management strategies,” Mohl commented.

While it is unclear how many Americans are currently taking GLP-1 drugs for weight loss, a Goldman Sachs study estimates that up to 70 million people across the country will try the medicines by 2028. As drug adoption grows, it’s expected that companies across several industries will adapt to changes in consumer behavior through product innovation and portfolio reshaping efforts.

However, questions remain, such as how patients will do on the prescriptions long term or how long they’ll even stay on the medication like Ozempic and Wegovy, which are made by Novo Nordisk. The global pharmaceutical company has its U.S. headquarters in Plainsboro.

Last month, Secaucus-headquartered The Vitamin Shoppe unveiled a telehealth service focused on weight-management solutions. Besides subscription-based plans for weight-loss drugs, the platform contains resources to empower patients so they can make healthy lifestyle choices.
