TEXARKANA, Ark. (KTAL/KMSS)—All Abilities is a Texarkana-based organization that offers training programs for people with cognitive or physical disabilities.
“We want to open up fitness and extracurricular activities such as sports, basketball to everyone.” says owner Whitni Allen.
They cater not only to all abilities but also to different ages and interests.
“We have athletes that are interested in powerlifting and swimming and cheerleading,” says Allen.

They even started a basketball team, which, after only a few practice sessions, was able to win third place at the Arkansas State Special Olympics.
“So we’re really excited about that and we have started practicing this summer for next season in basketball. Like our team is so excited about basketball,” says Allen.
They say the benefits go well beyond physical fitness.
“I mean, it just helps me to relieve stress and stuff to keep myself, to keep my mind clear as crystal,” says Ron Seay, one of the athletes who participates in All Abilities.
One of their biggest focuses, though, is fostering the social skills that go along with playing sports.
“It’s great to, feel like you’re a part of a team and our workouts here, it requires a lot of team work. We do a lot of team exercises. We do a lot of relay races. It’s just important to cheer each other on and feel like someone is cheering you on as well.” says Allen.
At the end of the day, it is rewarding for everyone involved.
“All of these athletes are always in a good mood. They’re never coming in here feeling like they don’t want to work hard. They just always encourage each other and me,” says Allen, “So I could have a bad day. Come here; everyone’s so pumped to work out, and they really do bring your spirits up.”
They work closely with other local organizations like Texarkana Resources and Opportunities Inc. Texarkana.
They always seek people to help volunteer their time or provide equipment.
