DESTREHAN, La. (WGNO) — A man was arrested in Destrehan on Wednesday, Aug. 7, after a stolen property investigation became a drug bust.
According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division were contacted by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives about a stolen property investigation. JPSO detectives said they were investigating a burglary suspect and learned that he was connected to St. Charles Parish and had a stolen motorcycle.
Five arrested following Montegut-area drug bust
Detectives with both the SCPSO and the JPSO went to speak with the suspect at a home in the 300 block of Rosedale Drive. While there, 31-year-old Richard Ruffino II was allegedly seen driving the stolen motorcycle.
Ruffino was stopped and arrested by the detectives, who said they found drugs and a handgun on him as he was being taken into custody.
Following Ruffino’s arrest, a search warrant was executed on the home, where detectives said they found another gun, more drugs and body armor with protective plates. In all, the SCPSO reported the investigation yielded the seizure of the following items:

Smith & Wesson 5.7x28mm handgun

Wilson Combat 9mm handgun

12.2 grams of marijuana
-
93 pills of a legend drug
-
18.6 grams of methamphetamine

9.4 grams of Adderall

Body armor with protective plates
Ruffino was booked into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center and is facing the following charges:

Illegal possession of stolen things

Possession of a firearm
-
Carrying concealed weapon by a convicted felon

Unlawful use of body armor

Sale, distribution or possession of a legend drug without prescription or order

Possession of marijuana
-
Possession with intent to distribute amphetamine

Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine
