Boots premium advent calendar is ‘one of the best value on the market’ according to beauty editors

When it comes to picking which beauty advent calendar to snap up in time for December, you’re likely going to want to go with one that offers both impressive products and value for money. One that shoppers have been hailing as the ‘best advent calendar ever’ is from a health and beauty retailer, Boots.

The pharmacy chain’s Limited Edition 24 Days of Beauty Christmas Advent Calendar comes in under £100, but boasts a combined product value of £365.87. At £99, it essentially means you’ll be getting £267 worth of makeup and skincare for free.

Not only that, but it contains some of the hottest brands in the beauty world right now, including the likes of Huda Beauty, Fenty, NARS, bareMinerals, Laura Mercier and No7. As well as giving shoppers an opportunity to try out a range of trending products, it also gives the retailer the chance to spotlight the brands they stock, making it perfect for any beauty fan.

One person who loves all things makeup and skincare, is Manchester Evening News shopping editor Rachel Pugh , who said this calendar is ‘one of the best value on the market’, particularly for those who love premium make-up.

She took a look inside the luxury countdown, doing all of the girl math and analysing the contents, and said it contained some of her favourite products. Here’s what she had to say about the calendar.

Rachel’s Boots 24 Days of Beauty Christmas Advent Calendar review:

Now, it’s a well-known fact that I’m no lover of maths; in fact, I actively avoided it in school. But even for me, it’s easy to work out how good value the Boots Limited Edition 24 Days of Beauty Christmas Advent Calendar is.

Let’s take four of my favourite products inside; the Fenty Beauty Velvet Icon Liquid Lipstick (worth £24), bareMinerals Pore Minimizing Primer (worth £30), Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Matte (worth £30) and Huda Beauty Lip Blush Creamy Lip Stain in shade Rosy Kiss (worth £21). These are just four out of the 24 products inside, and have a combined total RRP of £105 – £6 more than the cost of the entire box.

These are four products I’d happily pay full price for, as they’re all things I’d use almost every time I do my makeup. The bareMinerals Pore Minimizing Primer is a personal favourite of mine, and I’ve used it for a good while, as it gives the perfect base for flawless foundation and concealer that doesn’t crack.

I’ve also used Huda and Fenty Beauty lipsticks quite religiously over the years. They both have fantastic staying power and highly pigmented colour. The nude, pinky hues you get in the calendar should suit most skin types, but that’s personal preference, of course.

Make-up aside, some of the best skincare offerings inside the Boots Limited Edition 24 Days of Beauty Christmas Advent Calendar include Drunk Elephant Beste Jelly Cleanser 60ml (Worth £19), the highly premium Shiseido Vital Perfection Uplifting and Firming Advanced Cream (Worth £32), and Hello Sunday Eye Cream 15ml (Worth £18).

I was also OVER THE MOON to discover a little bottle of Sol De Janeiro Cheirosa Fragrance Mist ’76 inside. This is, in my opinion, the brand’s most expensive-smelling scent to date. It’s a little more sophisticated than Sol De Janeiro’s other more gourmand offerings, and as a 30-something-year-old woman, I much prefer it.

I wasn’t overly-enamoured with the full size bottle of FUL Hair shampoo inside, albeit worth £24. I’d have preferred another make-up pick with a similar price tag, as I wouldn’t generally spend that much on shampoo on a normal day. But that’s my personal preference.

While there are a few travel-size bits in here, there are a lot of full sized products, so you don’t feel like you’re paying for a box full of samples you’ll never end up using – as is the case with some beauty advent calendars out there. Instead, you can invest your money safe in the knowledge you’re getting a full beauty bag overhaul, with products that should last you a good while.

Here’s everything you’ll find inside the Boots Limited Edition 24 Days of Beauty Christmas Advent Calendar :

  • Shiseido Vital Perfection Uplifting and Firming Advanced Cream 15ml (Worth £32)

My own thoughts aside, other shoppers have also been overjoyed with the Boots Limited Edition 24 Days of Beauty Christmas Advent Calendar. It’s garnered a rating of 4.1 out of five stars on the Boots website, with the general consensus being it’s ‘excellent value for money’.

One happy Boots shopper said: “Amazing value for money and great excitement to see what behind every door for the run up to Christmas.”

A second said: “Best Advent Calendar Ever, it’s definitely worth the money, with a great array of products. I spent hours and days trying to get one last year without getting one, now I got it delivered 2 days after placing my order, I am very happy!”

“Great way to try new products. The few premium products far outweigh the cost of the box and the rest are a bonus,” penned a third. A fourth added: “Lots of minis, the skincare one is better and much more value for money.”

But somebody said: “I personally don’t think this is overpriced at all. It’s such a great way to try new products, and although some are travel sizes, you can’t expect 24 full-size branded products in a 24-day calendar for £99. That’s just ridiculous. There are some top brands like Sol de Janeiro and Drunk Elephant, ideal for a teenager who’s starting out or obsessed with make up and skin care. The box is excellent quality and just nice to display. For the price, which is one of the lowest for a beauty calendar, I think it’s really good for what you get, especially when there are cheaper advent calendars with low-quality repetitive items.”

And another concurred: “I personally don’t feel as though this is overpriced. I sat down and added everything up based on current prices and it was worth €419! That is excellent value for money. I personally would have preferred a smaller size of the shampoo and gotten both a shampoo and conditioner from the same brand, but that is my only gripe! Absolutely lovely products in here.”

If you’re looking for a more skincare heavy option, Boots has plenty on offer. Fans of No7 can get the 25 Day Beauty Secrets Advent Calendar for £60 instead of £236.65 – making for a huge saving on cult products. Or the luxury Liz Earle 12 Days of Beauty Advent Calendar 12 Piece Gift Set is £79, but worth £178.

Away from Boots, there’s Charlotte Tilbury’s Beauty Treasure Chest of Love, which isn’t cheap at £170, but has £243-worth of makeup and skincare treats inside. Or You can get the Boots Limited Edition 24 Days of Beauty Christmas Advent Calendar for £99 here.
