While it sounds very 007-esque, the story behind this one is more transatlantic than quintessentially British. Never Say Die is distilled in Kentucky, ocean-aged, and then finished in England. This means the bourbon is aged at sea on a journey that exposes it to three distinct climates, creating a unique flavour profile that has garnered multiple awards since its UK launch in September 2022.
The bourbon’s character reflects the rapid aging of Kentucky, the slow refinement in England, and the ocean’s influence, which enhances interaction between whisky and wood. Made with locally sourced “sweet” mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley, it is aged for five years, offering a balance of subtle spice, caramel undertones, and an exceptionally smooth finish. Bottled at 61% ABV, it’s perfect neat, on ice, or in cocktails.
And as for the name? While it might sound like it’s been chosen to reflect a hard-core liquor, Never Say Die actually takes it name from the famous racehorse, which was the first ever American-born winner of the Epsom Derby in 1954. As a foal, the horse had almost died after a traumatic birth. However, after a shot of whisky was poured down his throat to keep him alive, the foal pulled through and was aptly named ‘Never Say Die’ and a legend was born.
