SYRACUSE, NY — Friday is National Wear Red Day and people are being encouraged to wear red to draw awareness to heart disease.
Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women.
“Cardiovascular disease unfairly targets women. For too long women have been left out of research, testing, treatment and funding,” said Kristy Smorol, marketing and communications director for the National Heart Association.
Smorol appeared on Today in Central New York Friday morning telling the importance of knowing numbers like blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose and BMI.
“The good news is (that) heart disease is 80 percent preventable with healthy lifestyle habits that can help manage those numbers.
