Schumer sounds alarm on community health care funding

Health care for more than 110,000 Capital Region families is at risk, according to U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer.

Schumer was in Schenectady on Monday discussing shutdowns and layoffs at community health centers.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order to cut off funding for some health care services. That order was later rescinded, but it’s leaving some community health centers fearful for the future.

The 110,000 Capital Region families are among 2.4 million New Yorkers who could be affected if funding is cut.

Health care for more than 110,000 Capital Region families is at risk, according to U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer.

“Community health centers are the backbone of health care for Upstate NY. That is especially true here in the Capital Region with Hometown Health Center in Schenectady, Whitney Young in Albany and Hudson Headwaters in Glens Falls and throughout the Adirondacks,” Schumer said. “I’m calling on HHS to take immediate action to ensure CHCS receive the funds and answers they deserve. Doctors cannot provide health care with uncertainty and instability.”

Health centers that rely on these funds include Hometown Health Centers in Schenectady, Whitney Young in Albany, and Hudson Headwaters in Warren County.
