Mindful Monday: Looking into women’s health and wellbeing during Women’s History Month

LA CROSSE (WKBT)– March is Women’s History Month, making it a good time to focus on women’s health and wellness.

News 8 Now This Morning‘s Alexandra Carter and Art Jarrett were joined by Amanda Westphal, Community Benefit Specialist for Gundersen Health System and Jessica Boland, Worksite Wellness Consultant for Gundersen Health System, to discuss women’s health and medical symptoms that may be overshadowed.

They emphasize the importance of preventative care and that certain symptoms can be easily overlooked in women.

“It’s important for women to prioritize their health and wellbeing,” says Westphal. “Whether it be their mental and emotional health and wellbeing or their physical health.”

While juggling responsibilities is important, both add that making sure the self is cared for is essential to good health. Activities like exercise and journaling can work wonders both in mind and soul. Eating well and drinking water are essential as well.

To stay on top of health screenings, the first step is to stay in contact with a primary care physician, who will help keep track of screenings for gender and age. Age is a factor as well, as certain screenings become more important over time.
