LATHAM, NY (WRGB) — Focusing on yourself doesn’t mean you have to do it on your own, that’s the motto behind a new U.S. Army video campaign, All You.
“The All You campaign focuses not just on physical fitness; it also focuses on cognitive fitness,” said Major Allison Brager, PhD neuroscientist & Sleep Expert. “So how to get a restorative night of sleep, how to properly fuel yourself, how to be mentally ready to perform.
The campaign is based on research and expertise of the army’s holistic health and fitness system.
There are already seven videos posted on the go army YouTube page, they plan to add more weekly.
“Our jobs in the army are to deploy at any time anywhere around the world. So we have to be not just physically ready to do that, but mentally ready,” said Major Brager. “We have to make sure we’re taking care of the troops, but we’re also taking care of ourselves.”
U.S. Army Veteran Matt Stonesifer served two tours in Afghanistan, now lives in the Capital Region. He tells CBS6, he thinks the videos are a great tool.
“I liked that they’re looking at it from a total approach. Especially being that most military, you come in very young,” said Stonesifer. “People are still learning how to cope with stuff; I’ve seen a lot of people once they get out, not being able to cope with real life.”
While supporting soldiers is the goal, helping boost recruitment is another mission of the campaign.
From 2022 to 2024 the U.S. the Army fell short of their recruitment goals.
The Navy and Air Force missed their goal in 2023, the Marine Corp and Space Force have reached their goals.
Since he’s left the military, Stonesifer says it’s encouraging to see new approaches agencies are taking.
“The fact that they lean into it now and look at the overall, making sure that that is a key aspect of being a healthy person and embrace it and see that it’s just another tool and not necessarily a negative thing is amazing.”
