Meet London’s Wellness Gurus For A 360 Approach To Beauty And Health

Put these London wellness gurus on speed dial:

Tom Smith: the stylist passionate about hair health

Tom Smith has just stepped off a plane. If he is not found at the Billi Currie salon on Chiltern Street, central London, then he is more often than not flying around the world to work with one of his many monied clients. “I took at least 50 flights last year,” he reveals.

In some ways, the moniker ‘hair stylist’ undermines Tom Smith’s artistry. Dubbed the ‘Hairvoyant’ by The Sunday Times, due to his knack of predicting hair trends way before they hit high-street salons, and best colourist in London, by Harper’s Bazaar, Tom is reframing the haircare industry as we know it.

An appointment with Tom is hard to get, but when you do get one, you can expect to be with him for around three to four hours for a unique personalised experience. Offering more than just ‘colour and cut’, his focus is on improving hair quality from the inside-out, using a multi layered curation of products, technologies and methods to gain glossy, healthy results. You might be asked to wear a red light helmet (“it helps regenerate hair”), for instance, or have a special scalp treatment to boost hair health and growth. If colour is needed, Tom will apply much of it by hand, just like an artist.

“My mission is to improve your relationship with your hair, and therefore yourself,” he says. It’s no doubt the reason why he is so in demand with the rich and famous around the world.

“I’m all about the details,” he continues. “So, first I watch how a client talks and moves. I find out about their lifestyle, before I even touch the hair. I’m also passionate about improving a client’s hair health through regenerating hair technologies that will transform hair quality.”

“I take a full-concept approach. So I cut, colour, style and manage the whole process for each individual client. I also incorporate texture management and use of extensions. It really is about the total design,”

Having worked in the industry for 18 years, his approach has been described as “intelligent and thoughtful”, yet it also feels modern and relevant. By delving deep into hair health, he is able to elevate how hair moves, feels, grows—ultimately changing its behaviour to unlock hair that looks and feels expensive.

His quarterly trends reports, which have included ideas such as ‘bottleneck bangs’ and ‘cowgirl copper’, are snapped up by key media, which then sees them trickle down into the mainstream. “Trends aren’t about limiting people,”he emphasises, “they are more about providing inspiration to helping people express themselves.”

“The next big thing for hair is tech—such as QMR (quantum magnetic resonance), longevity treatments, such as stem cell and red light therapies. While the end result is vital, of course, the focus has shifted to looking at the foundations of hair health.”

As well as treating clients in a salon, Tom also works on consultancy projects, behind the scenes on photoshoots and teaches hairdressing educators around the world. “I’ve worked on many product development projects over the years, including helping to launch Olaplex ten years ago in the UK and a colour line for Evo.”

“Working in this industry, people assume I must be super confident but I haven’t always felt comfortable in my skin,” he reveals. “Having worked with thousands of clients over the years, I have a profound understanding that how we feel about our appearance affects our confidence. It’s deep rooted but by helping improve people’s hair, and the way they feel about it, helps improve their self-esteem. It’s what drives me.”

Dr Federica Amati: the nutritionist passionate about diet health

Also delving deep into what’s behind our health, is best-selling author and nutritional scientist Dr Federica Amati. Working as head nutritionist at ZOE, the science and nutrition company, Dr Amati also holds a PhD in Clinical Medicine Research from Imperial College London, a Master’s in public health and is an Association for Nutrition (AfN) Registered Nutritionist.

As well as an author of two bestselling books, Recipes for a Better Menopause and Every Body Should Know This, she is passionate about using food as the best tool to transform health. As a result, she has recently launched a ground-breaking, six-week nutrition course aimed at business leaders (from 26 June 2025 at Imperial Business School and Emeritus). A deep dive into nutrition, the idea is to guide participants through the ever changing and complex modern food environment.

During the course, Nutrition for Health: Evidence Based Tools and Strategies, Dr Amati debunks food myths and delivers factual guidance to dispel any medical misinformation or faddy food trends as she shares evidence-based solutions. The online programme delves into the science of food digestion, dietary patterns that support metabolic health, and the role of nutrition across each stage of life. By translating scientific insights into real-world applications, participants will learn to read food labels critically, develop customised meal plans, and implement evidence-based nutrition practices.

“The course offers strategies that you can incorporate into your everyday life, whether you are a business leader, health optimiser or simply someone who wants to live a better life by improving their knowledge around nutrition,” she says.

“Expect to learn about the science of eating well. As you discover more about preventative health and why a healthy metabolism is crucial for optimum health, you will be able to make positive changes to your everyday eating habits,” she says.

A keen believer in the benefits of the Mediterranean diet, Dr Amati believes the power of food not only helps us individually but it is imperative for those in leadership to understand how creating a healthy food environment for all can strengthen the workforce and as a result society in its entirety.
