‘Exploring Health Care Careers’ summer camp held at U of M Flint

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – U of M Flint College of Health Sciences hosted its annual Exploring Health Care Careers event, drawing students from across Mid-Michigan.

The event, held indoors due to the heat, included an accident simulation that demonstrated what medical professionals do during a crash.

High school students gained hands-on experience and insights into various healthcare careers.

“Most people when they think about healthcare think about physicians and nurses because that is what a lot of healthcare providers are,” Donna Fry, Dean of Health Sciences at U of M Flint, said. “However, 50% of the healthcare workforce is from professions that are not nursing or medicine. So we are helping them learn about those other health careers.”

Fry added that many of the healthcare programs featured at the event are offered at U of M Flint or Mott Community College.
