Why hoarding is being called a ‘mental health emergency’

Hoarding behaviour has become a “mental health emergency” in the UK, a social enterprise group has warned. It’s something many people will have heard of – or perhaps even say we do – but for some, it’s a psychological disorder, that makes it almost impossible to get rid of items, regardless of their worth. Estimates suggest up to 3 million UK adults may have hoarding disorder, but it’s thought the true number could have risen significantly since the pandemic. We take a look back at when presenter and life coach Mavis Ackerley met two women, to find out how the habit affected their lives, and the support available.
