MADISON (WKOW) — A facility devoted to supporting those suffering with addiction, mental health and homelessness, is set to open in the coming months.
Tellurian Behavioral Health is opening Jake’s Place in late fall at 702 West Main Street, according to a press release. Named after Darryll E. Jacobson, the center aims to enhance behavioral health services in Wisconsin.
CEO Kevin Florek expressed enthusiasm about the new location’s potential impact. “We are thrilled to be opening this new Tellurian location in the heart of Madison, where we will be able to directly impact the lives of so many people” Florek said. He thanked Steve Jacobson, whose generosity made the project possible. Steve is the son of Darryll.
Packer greats Brett Favre, Don Majkowski, and Gilbert Brown will help introduce Jake’s Place. “I know first-hand the importance of programs like these,” Majkowski said. “I’m so glad I can be there to support the work that Tellurian does here in Wisconsin.”
The facility will offer expanded addiction services, street outreach, and case management. Steve Jacobson shared that honoring his father’s memory through Jake’s Place is deeply meaningful.
“My dad would have been so humbled to see the impactful work Tellurian is doing to support individuals facing the same challenges he once did,” Jacobson said. “My dad’s journey through alcohol addiction brought him courage and compassion that he was able to share with others.”
Dane County Sheriff and Tellurian board member Kalvin Barrett emphasized the center’s importance.
“This is exciting news for Dane County citizens,” Barrett said, noting it will help reduce the burden on the local jail.
Tellurian has provided treatment services for over 54 years, offering a range of programs for substance use, mental health, and homelessness. The organization continues fundraising efforts to fully furnish the new building.
