UOC in fitness campaign

Physical fitness contributes a lot to the well-being of the body and mind.

It’s against this background that Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) in partnership with International Olympic Committee (IOC) and World Health Organisation decided to promote the #Healthy At Home virtual campaign.

In the press briefing at UOC offices, UOC Commission for Sports and Social Development chairman, Simon Peter Komakech alongside the Secretary of the commission, Barbara Asiimwe revealed that they decided to conduct a fitness campaign to improve the health of people.

“This fitness campaign is just a continuation of another version we started in 2020. We intend to have Ugandans physically fit. Instead of sitting and eating, get up and do some exercise. This exercise is good for your body, and it keeps you young and fresh. If you keep the body fit, you don’t have time to worry. Even when you have frustration, it clears your mind. We want Ugandans to be healthy and happy,” stated Komakech.

The campaign also seeks to provide tips, routines, advice and encourage the masses to particularly adopt physically active lifestyles.

This campaign was initiated during the Covid-19 lockdowns and Komakech believes many people benefited from it.

“It started during the Covid-19 times since most people were sitting at home. But as we are being allowed to move out and walk around plus do other activities, we can’t stop doing this. We shall continue to do exercises since some remain at home and need to benefit from it,” he added.

“We are holding it virtually, but we shall have our members physically take part. But we encourage individuals to post their workouts. We were motivated to have this campaign because most people spent their time at home due to the pandemic. We shall continue to do it since physical fitness is for everybody and all times,” reasoned Komakech.
