Selena Gomez, singer, actor and founder of Rare Beauty revealed that she has developed arthritis in her fingers as a complication of lupus, a condition she was first diagnosed with in 2013. While she publicly shared her lupus battle years ago, she opened up about the arthritis diagnosis only recently.
Selena Gomez was a guest on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast on September 9, 2025, where she told the host that the arthritis was an outcome of her lupus and primarily affects her fingers. She told us how it has changed her everyday life especially in mobility and hands aching.
“I have arthritis in my fingers, and that’s due to my lupus,” Gomez said during the interview.
It is not only that this health journey has shaped her personal experiences, but it has also impacted her decisions as the founder of Rare Beauty. Selena Gomez pointed out that the arthritis problems caused her to concentrate on designing easy to carry product packaging, as people might experience the same problem.
