CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten on Tuesday revealed that the “clear plurality” of Republicans are Affordable Care Act marketplace enrollees, even as the GOP refuses to fund health care subsidies amid the government shutdown.

“When you actually dig into the data, you can understand why Marjorie Taylor Greene is doing what she’s doing and why this debate is actually dividing Republicans,” said Enten of the congresswoman, who has sided with the left as Democrats look to extend ACA subsidies to keep premiums from skyrocketing.

Enten turned to KFF polling showing that 45% of ACA marketplace enrollees are Republicans, compared to the 35% who are Democrats or lean toward the party. Independents, per the polling, made up 20% of enrollees.

Enten, who called the finding “one of the biggest surprises,” added that 57% of enrollees are in GOP-held congressional districts, such as Greene’s in Georgia.

“So, what we’re seeing here is it’s not actually Democrats who are the only ones who are taking advantage of Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act. There are a lot of Republicans,” he continued.

Moments earlier in the segment, Enten stressed that the ACA — in terms of net favorability — has proven to be a “comeback story.”

The ACA’s net favorability rating jumped from -10 percentage points in 2014 to +6 percentage points in 2017 before rising to +30 percentage points this year.

“So, the key thing to understand about this entire debate is — Democrats want to have this debate now in 2025 as compared to 2014, when the Affordable Care Act was not popular,” he noted.
