Glenwood Springs-based health system Valley View is offering a free Women’s Health Series where community providers will offer tips and answer questions on aging well, menopause, chest pain and more.
Designed for women by female providers, the Women’s Health Series consists of three 30-minute webinars and open question-and-answer sessions led by Valley View experts. The program is part of the organization’s Valley View University, which gives the community a chance to learn how to improve their health in a stress-free environment that is less time restricted than a doctor’s appointment.
“I think it’s really important for us to have a presence in the community, and I think that this series is one way for us to accomplish that,” Internist Dr. Susan Willliams said. “It’s also nice to have time to really elaborate on the subject. When you’re in an appointment with a patient, you usually have multiple issues that you need to address, and you don’t get to spend too much time on one thing. This enables us to do that.”
The first class, “Living Well as You Age: Practical Tips for Lifelong Vitality,” is slated for noon on Wednesday. It will be presented by Williams, who joined Valley View Internal Medicine in May.
Williams will discuss the importance of annual screenings, as well as diet and lifestyle changes that can help women age well. The webinar will be followed by a question-and-answer session also led by Williams.
“There’s a lot we can do as we age to maintain good health and even pursue better health,” Williams said. “Hopefully my presentation will give participants some ideas about what they can do, not just to have good health, but to have the best health possible as they get older.”
On Feb. 18, Dr. Haley Hoffman, a family medicine physician from Valley View’s Roaring Fork Family Practice, will present “Navigating the Change: What Every Woman Should Know About Perimenopause and Menopause” and discuss ways to manage common symptoms.
The third and final installment, “Understanding Chest Pain and Heart Failure in Women,” is scheduled for Feb. 25 and will be led by Sonja Hanson Fauchet, a physician assistant at Valley View’s Heart and Vascular Center. Hanson will discuss symptoms of diastolic heart failure in women, when to seek care and different treatment options.
