When purchasing bridesmaid robes, it is important to first look at the sizing of the styles offered. “It is very common for styles to only be available in ‘One Size’. You want to make sure that all of your wedding party feels and looks their best on the big day and that means giving them the appropriate sized getting ready outfit!” says Greenberg.

29 Tip #2: Look at the material.

According to Greenberg, the three most common materials for bridesmaids robes are satin, cotton, and jersey. Satin adds a sense of elegance to pictures, and the sheen makes them photograph really well. They generally are the softest and comfiest option, but they do wrinkle, so be sure someone is in charge of steaming and hanging them before wear.

Cotton is the go-to for a summer wedding if you’ll be getting ready in the heat. They’re comfortable and great for anyone with sensitive skin. The downside to cotton is that the light colors can be a bit transparent, so tell your bridesmaids to wear a slip or something underneath.

Jersey is a great, sustainable gift that your wedding party will wear over and over again. They’re the most flexible and comfortable material, but generally come with a higher price tag.

30 Tip #3: Material first, color second.

While it is very common to want to match the getting-ready outfits to the wedding colors, it doesn’t have to be that way. “Focus on finding a cut and a material that you like first, then choose your favorite color,” says Greenberg.

“You will most likely not be getting ready with any decorations, so your robe colors won’t clash with your surroundings. The most popular colors for the 2022 wedding season are champagne, blush, and sage green.”

31 Tip #4: Order in advance.

Greenberg notes that you should be starting the search for your favorite styles at least six weeks before you say “I do.”

“The general timeline for robes to be ready, especially if you want to add personalized touches like embroidered initials, is two to three weeks,” she says. “You want to give yourself lots of time to receive the robes, try on the styles, and make sure they fit!”

32 Tip #5: Prep and take care.

Depending on the material of the robe, Greenberg adds that they might require some love and attention before they are ready to be worn.

“Focus on the care instructions to achieve the best look, whether it be steaming, ironing, or leaving it in the bathroom while you run a hot shower,” she says.

“Nobody wants wrinkly robes in their photos. If you are giving the robes to your wedding party as a gift, prepare them and then hang them on a matching hanger to keep them in the best shape.”
