Braun views new Daviess County women’s health center as healthcare model

Daviess Community Hospital held a ribbon-cutting on Friday for a new Women’s Health Center.

The center combines prenatal care with delivery rooms and overall gynecological care for patients.

The fully operational area brings a much-needed boost to OB-GYN care that has recently been declining in rural areas.

The new center is born from a partnership between Deaconess Hospital and Daviess Community Hospital.

Governor Mike Braun says the investment in the Women’s Health Center is a good way to fight high costs for patients and help curve a lack of physicians.

“Here we’ve gained two obstetricians. Most hospitals are losing them,” Braun said. “I’m looking to this to be a model of how we start making healthcare better for the entire state and bring costs down to boot.”

Braun added that the goal is to keep the rural hospital healthcare system thriving.

“This is a partnership,” Braun said. “Deaconess is probably one of the larger hospitals that have reached out to see how we get the mix of the healthier larger systems while keeping the rural healthcare intact.”

One of the two OB-GYNs who are in charge of the new area says the center is an incredibly important part of the hospital now.

“It’s a vital hospital that has everything in place to take care of people. To support that and keep it going. To hopefully promote the growth,” the doctor said. “I think that’s the goal.”

The Women’s health Center is open now and is fully ready to help any women who need care.
