Miami Dade College and Jackson Health System launch new Health Science Collegiate Academy

Miami Dade College and Jackson Health System announced plans Monday to launch the Health Science Collegiate Academy, a new high school designed to prepare students for careers in health care while addressing South Florida’s growing workforce needs.

Leaders from both institutions signed a memorandum of understanding at Miami Dade College’s Medical Campus outlining the partnership.

The academy is scheduled to open in August 2027 in Miami’s Health District. Officials described the initiative as a first-of-its-kind collaboration between the college and Jackson Health System focused on creating educational and career pathways for Miami-Dade County students interested in health care professions.

“The launch of the Health Science Collegiate Academy reflects what is possible when education and industry come together to advance student success and strengthen our community,” said Miami Dade College President Madeline Pumariega in a press release. “Through this partnership with Jackson Health System, we are building a powerful pipeline of future health care professionals who will serve with skill, compassion and purpose, while helping meet one of South Florida’s most critical workforce needs.”

According to the release, students at the academy will receive early exposure to health care education, hands-on learning opportunities and access to college-level coursework. The school will focus on careers in nursing, allied health, health care administration and other high-demand medical fields.

“As Miami-Dade County continues to grow, so does the need for world-class health care and a strong pipeline of skilled medical professionals,” said Carlos A. Migoya, CEO of Jackson Health System. “Jackson Health System is a powerhouse in medicine, and Miami Dade College is a landmark institution known for educational excellence. Bringing these two institutions together to launch this high school is a natural fit — uniting world-class health care and education to inspire, prepare and train the next generation of health care professionals.”

Leaders attending the signing ceremony included Pumariega, Migoya and Jackson Health System President and COO David Zambrana.

Miami Dade College said the academy is part of a broader effort to strengthen workforce development and expand access to career-focused education opportunities throughout Miami-Dade County.
