LAFAYETTE, Ind.(WLFI) – YWCA Greater Lafayette is hosting a family friendly event aimed at honoring women’s health.
‘The Power of Community’ will focus on women’s health, cancer patients, cancer survivors and those reclaiming their lives free from domestic or sexual violence. It will go from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on June 6.
The event is inspired by beloved YWCA Greater Lafayette traditions like the Strawberry Festival, Clay Bowl Giving Project, Power of the Purse and Ultimate Pink Party.
There will be food trucks, live music, guest speakers, a live auction, hands on crafts and so much more. The event will also include the Linda Sorensen Peony Garden dedication.
‘The Power of Community’ is extra special because it’s created by YWCA Graduate Assistant Olivia Carmin. Her goal as an intern was to work on a project while at the YWCA, and women’s health was something she’s passionate about.
Carmin says she hopes it’ll just be a fun evening for families at the YWCA Patricia and W. Kelley Carr Advocacy Center.
Already this year, YWCA Greater Lafayette has helped 65 individuals at the emergency shelter and 334 in all of their programming. The proceeds from this event will make sure that work continues.
“YWCA Greater Lafayette alone serves many different women going through or experiencing concerns around breast cancer and cervical cancer, so that was the main issue that we wanted to address with celebrating those women because we serve those women here. We wanted to give them a celebration not only just serving their needs,” said Carmin. “We really wanted to expand it even to our domestic violence shelter that we have here and the different people that we serve there as well.”
There’s still time to become a sponsor, apply as a vendor and register a guest of honor. All information for tickets and more can be found on this website.
