Hugh Jackman, 57, Just Rowed an ‘Elite’ 10K Time – See How Yours Stacks Up

Hugh Jackman is already known for his impressive rowing times and high VO2 max, but the actor has now posted a 10k rowing performance that would give most 20-year-olds a serious run for their money. The 57-year-old shared a time of 38 minutes and 22 seconds on Instagram, placing him firmly in elite territory and faster than 96% of male rowers his age.

For context, that pace works out at roughly 1:55 per 500m across the full distance – a split many people would struggle to hold for 10 minutes, let alone nearly 40.

While Jackman has long been associated with intense training for his role as Wolverine, the latest performance suggests his conditioning hasn’t slowed down with age. If anything, the Australian actor appears to be getting fitter.

What’s a Good 10K Row Time for Men?

According to Rowing Level, the average 10k rowing time for men is 40:00.8. That figure reflects recreational rowers across all age groups, although it’s worth noting the data largely comes from people who regularly use rowing machines rather than complete beginners.

Generally speaking, a sub-45-minute 10k is considered solid, while anything under 40 minutes moves into advanced territory. Dip below 39 minutes, however, and you’re entering genuinely elite-level territory.

To put Jackman’s result into perspective, his time comfortably places him in that elite bracket – and doing it at 57 years old makes the achievement even more impressive.
