Ricky Martin Is in Seriously Impressive Shape at 54 – and He’s Added Capoeira to His Training

At 54, Ricky Martin has been performing for decades – and judging by his latest training footage, he has no intention of slowing down.

The ‘Livin’ la Vida Loca’ singer has long taken his fitness seriously, combining regular gym sessions with a disciplined approach to nutrition and working with specialist coaches to stay in shape.

More recently, though, Martin appears to have added something rather different to his usual training: capoeira.

Ricky Martin Adds Capoeira to His Training

In footage shared from a beach in Puerto Rico, Martin can be seen practising the Brazilian martial art, working through a combination of footwork, attacks, defensive movements and acrobatics.

‘Little moments in life,’ he captioned the post.

It’s a useful addition to the singer’s training. Capoeira demands strength, mobility, balance, coordination and cardiovascular fitness, with its constant movement requiring you to produce force from a variety of positions rather than simply working through the fixed movement patterns you’d typically find in the gym.

For Martin, who regularly shares glimpses of the work he puts into maintaining his physique, it also provides another way to stay athletic rather than focusing solely on adding muscle.

Still Going Strong at 54

That fitness is particularly useful given Martin’s touring schedule. The singer has spent the summer performing across Europe and Asia, with dates spanning Spain, Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Turkey and Kazakhstan.

‘A beautiful tour through Europe and Asia this summer,’ he wrote recently. ‘How lucky I am to be able to continue doing what I love so much, music on stage. To my audience, THANK YOU ALWAYS. We keep going strong.’

Maintaining that sort of schedule requires more than simply looking good without a shirt. Performing night after night places a genuine demand on your conditioning, movement and recovery – particularly when you’re travelling between countries at the same time.

Martin’s latest training is a reminder that staying fit as you get older doesn’t necessarily mean doubling down on the same gym routine you’ve followed for decades. Strength training remains important, but adding activities that challenge your coordination, mobility and athleticism can help build a body that doesn’t just look strong, but continues to move well, too.
