In partnership with Uwill, U-M students will receive unlimited access to licensed therapists around the clock, wherever in the world they are studying
NATICK, Mass., Oct. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Uwill, the leading mental health and wellness solution for colleges and students, is expanding its partnership with theUniversity of Michigan to provide unlimited counseling sessions for every student. The expansion takes effect for the 2026-27 academic year and covers the university’s more than 54,000 students, including undergraduate, graduate, professional, online, and study abroad students.
“Our goal is a connected continuum of care in which every student can find the right level of support at the right time,” said Lindsey Mortenson, M.D., M.S., chief mental health officer and executive director of University Health & Counseling at the University of Michigan. “This expansion adds capacity for students whose schedules, locations, or preferences make a traditional appointment difficult, while our own counselors and clinicians continue to provide the in-person and high-acuity care that many students need.”
Nationally,54% of young adults and 69% of college students have experienced a mental or concern in the past year. TheHealthy Minds Study, the nation’s largest annual survey of student mental health and based at the University of Michigan, finds that lack of time remains the most common barrier students cite to getting care.
U-M students can book an appointment with a licensed counselor in minutes, without a referral or session cap. Same-day appointments are available during the day, at night, on weekends, holidays, and academic breaks. Students can select counselors based on their individual needs and preferences, including language, ethnicity, and area of need, and connect by video, phone, chat or message from anywhere in the world.
“Michigan has helped set the bar for the higher education sector, not just by expanding access, but by building one of the most coordinated campus student mental health support systems in higher education,” said Michael London, founder and CEO of Uwill. “Extending unlimited access to every student, including those learning online and overseas, removes the remaining barriers between a student and a licensed counselor. We are honored to have the opportunity to support that work.”
Uwill has partnered with Michigan since 2022, when the university first made teletherapy available to students alongside its campus counseling services. Utilizing its proprietary technology and counselor team, Uwill pioneered the first student and therapist matching platform. The solution offers an immediate appointment with a licensed counselor based on student preferences, all modalities of teletherapy, a direct crisis connection 24/7/365, on-demand medical care, prescription management, basic needs support, wellness programming, real-time data, and support.
More information on the expansion can be found in an article in U-M’s University Record.
