More Than 100 HCA Healthcare Hospitals Recognized by Healthgrades for Excellence in Specialty Care

HCA Healthcare hospitals earned more 2027 specialty care recognitions than any other health system, including national distinctions for surgical care, emergency medicine and orthopedic surgery

NASHVILLE, Tenn., October 29, 2026–(BUSINESS WIRE)–HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA), one of the nation’s leading healthcare providers, today announced that 102 of its hospitals have been recognized by Healthgrades for excellence in specialty care, more than any other health system in the country. The 2027 recognitions reflect clinical outcomes in important areas of patient care, including surgical care, emergency medicine and orthopedic surgery.

For patients and families making healthcare decisions, these recognitions provide information about hospitals that have demonstrated strong clinical outcomes in specific areas of care. Healthgrades evaluates hospitals using measures such as risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates, which account for differences in patients’ health conditions and the complexity of their care.

Among HCA Healthcare hospitals’ 2027 Healthgrades achievements:

  • 102 hospitals received specialty care recognition, the most of any health system nationwide.

  • 56 hospitals earned the Surgical Care Excellence Award, representing the most recipients of any health system in the country.

  • 45 hospitals received the new Emergency Medicine Excellence Award, more than any other health system nationwide. The award recognizes hospitals for clinical outcomes involving serious conditions commonly associated with emergency admissions, including heart attack, stroke and sepsis.

  • 52 hospitals were named among America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery, representing more than half of all hospitals receiving this national distinction.

Across the recognized hospitals, HCA Healthcare received 280 America’s Best Specialty distinctions and 617 Specialty Excellence Awards, both the highest totals among health systems nationwide.

“Patients place an extraordinary amount of trust in the people caring for them, often during some of the most difficult moments in their lives,” said Michael Schlosser, M.D., MBA, executive vice president and chief clinical officer of HCA Healthcare. “These awards reflect the expertise, dedication and teamwork of the physicians, nurses and colleagues who care for our patients every day. They also reinforce our responsibility to keep learning, measuring our performance and finding ways to help make care safer and better for every patient we serve.”

HCA Healthcare supports its caregivers through a connected network designed to enable hospitals to share expertise, learn from clinical data and promote practices to improve patient care. For example, drawing on its system-wide experience of approximately 10 million emergency room visits annually, HCA Healthcare works with clinical teams to identify opportunities for improvement and share best practices across its hospitals. In 2025, the organization also standardized technology across its emergency departments to help care teams have a more complete view of patient information, supporting timely clinical decisions and coordinated care.

The Healthgrades specialty care recognitions are based on an analysis of clinical outcomes for common conditions and procedures. The awards recognize performance in specific specialties by evaluating hospitals using objective clinical measures.

While these recognitions highlight strong performance at individual hospitals, HCA Healthcare remains focused on improving clinical outcomes and the care experience across its network. The organization continues to evaluate performance, identify opportunities for improvement and support caregivers in delivering safe, effective and compassionate care.
