Eye on Health: On-site health clinic for employees opens at Kem Krest’s HQ

Squeezing in a doctor’s visit in the middle of your workday isn’t easy. Add in when you can take your child and its work that’s taking the sacrifice.

“Pulse” is the new health and wellness clinic in Kem Krest’s own backyard. Employees are invited to invest in their health at no expense to them.

The office and the doctor’s office are one and the same for the supply chain management company.

That’s because treating things like colds, coughs, sprains and yearly exams are done on-site.

“We recognize the challenges in healthcare, the costs, sometimes the inconvenience. It’s hard to leave work to go get a doctor’s appointment. And sometimes it’s hard to be intentional about taking care of yourself,” said Kem Krest CEO Amish Shah.

Partnering with Beacon Health System, the clinic is open 3 days a week including to employees’ family members.

Staff can schedule an appointment and stop in during the workday, even employees who don’t have the company’s health insurance.

“They don’t have to schedule outside of work when they’re taking away from family time and it’s great for the employer because their associates are not missing work, driving to a physician’s appointment, waiting in a line, go into the pharmacy to pick up the prescription and then coming back to work,” said Beacon Health System Retail Operations Director Brock Haut.

There’s a private entrance for Kem Krest employees to access the health & wellness clinic– something that its CEO says adds to its convenience.

“We can design something that would be effective for our families to come in without– being close and on site, but without being in the way of our manufacturing and distribution facilities…,” Shah said.

Because urgent cares are strained, Shah says its especially pertinent for them to do their part as a large company to reduce the burden.

“It does help ease the strain,” Haut said. “Associates from Kem Krest now have the opportunity to be seen here. They won’t go to the urgent care at all the times. So, it does ease the strain on the health system.”

And they know this works. The Shah says Beacon Health built the framework his five plus year ambition which is modeled off of another onsite clinic in the area.

“If you think about, what do you do with the most important assets, you know, you protect them, you make sure that they’re safe, you make sure that they’re healthy, and you nurture them,” the CEO said.

The medical services offered are specific to meet the needs of employees for this location of Kem Krest and will be fluid as the company grows.

“As we start to see the success and learn, you know, how to make this scalable, we intend to scale this throughout our entire organizational infrastructure at all of our facilities,” Shah said.

Kem Krest’s headquarters in Elkhart is the first to get one of these onsite clinics, but Shah says it’s not going to be their last.

The goal is to expand it to its other nine locations.
