Trade pale pink for negative space and white tips for a few dark neutrals to achieve this modern minimalist style. “This is more subtle with a multiple colors variation on your French tips,” says Lin. “You can be playful but less risky, as the majority of your nails will be covered by a clear base.” This variation will also grow out nicely, as most negative space designs do.

Hot pink and lilac purple combine in this French mani that features angular tips versus curved ones—and treats each hand’s color scheme as the opposite of the other.

Who says all of your tips have to match? Turn each of your nails into mini works of art with graphic tips that sport intricate patterns in a variety of colors.

Everyone’s favorite fruit emoji plays well with the French manicure motif. Pair orange colored tips with leafy green accents and plump peaches painted onto your nail beds.

For those who don’t want to give up square or squoval nail shapes, Lin says the French design is super-adaptable. “You might have to adjust the thickness of the French line based on your nail length, such as a thinner line for shorter nails if you want to make your finger look long,” says Lin. Or you can just layer on an extra line of color that hugs your tips, like the double pink band look here. Choose your favorite color for this extra linear accent or keep it classic whitet.

Your hands might not be steady enough to give yourself a classic French mani at home, but you can certainly try a DIY glitter design that echoes traditional curved white tips. Once your chosen base color is dry, paint your favorite metallic glitter polish on the top third of your nails, following the outline of their shapes.You can go soft and subtle, as with this gold-on-gold combo, or something higher contrast if you want a bolder look.

French mani but make multi-colored! These nails feature not one but two trends: rainbow French tips that are filed into the “cut out” shape, which essentially looks like a square silhouette with a half-moon cut out of it.

These textured tips, which feature raised, colorful squiggly lines drawn over the traditional French tips, were inspired by a Mara Hoffman dress. The result? A festive confetti-look manicure that would be perfect for your birthday month or a special celebration.

Instead of focusing on your tips, the inverted French features a painted curve along the base of the nail. You can mix this look with solid nails, as shown here, or paint every single digit this way.
