Kozhikode: In a startling revelation, certificates of eye tests submitted as part of applying for and renewing driving license is found to be issued without proper health check-ups. It is alleged that the fake certificates are issued from the institutions recommended by driving schools.
When applying through such eye testing centres, the applicant only needs to pay for the certificate and opt out from appearing from the test. It is alleged that Motor Vehicle Department is letting this despite knowing such fake certificates are issued.
‘ I went to the doctor’s house for a certificate for eye test. A woman came from inside the house and informed me that there was no doctor. After understanding my purpose of visit, she asked me to read letters written on a wall and went inside the house and brought the certificate. She also inquired about the name of my driving school,” a young woman from Panniyankara disclosed her experience.
According to the MVD officials, even if such a fake certificate was found during the examination, the applicant won’t cooperate in the investigation. The RTO said that the collector holds the power to cancel the registration of doctors if the certificate is issued without inspection.
