Health and fitness event prepares students for school year

From pickleball to dancing, to toddlers playing golf, there was something for everyone at the inaugural Pulse – A Health and Wellness Fest For All. “It’s always good to be active out there,” said Luke Malgonado, a pickleball participant. Tony Becker with Toned Body and Fitness is one of the 40-plus vendors participating in the event. “A lot of people utilize exercise,” Becker said. As a fitness expert, Becker said there is a connection with physical fitness and mental health. “They realize it’s a stress relief. It’s a 45 minutes about them. You know, they have to deal with all the stresses of their job,” Becker said. There are health benefits for children as well. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says physical activity lowers blood pressure, improves memory and reduces depression. It’s why volunteers with United Way are working, to make teen mental health wellness kits. Kits are filled with items such as fidget toys to relax the teen’s mind and make sure the students and kids are healthy, physically and mentally for the school year. “There’s so much that they go through, as you know, and we want our kids to be vibrant. We want them to be able to do great things,” Aurora Health President Gabrielle Finley-Hazle said.
