When Is The Next Women’s March? What To Know After The 2024 Presidential Election

After the 2024 election, a ton of issues are now up in the air, including reproductive rights, immigration, and gun control. If things didn’t go the way you had hoped this election cycle, it’s understandable to wonder what’s next—and what you can do about it.

One option is to join the Women’s March, which is planning a ”massive People’s March” on January 18, the Saturday before Trump’s second inauguration. But that’s not the only event coming up.

So, what is the Women’s March and when is the next one? Here’s what you need to know.

What is the Women’s March?

The Women’s March is a peaceful protest to support issues that are important to women.

The first one was held around the world on January 21, 2017, on the first full day of Donald Trump‘s presidency. An estimated 470,000 people attended the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., in support of gender equality, civil rights, and other issues that were expected to face challenges under the new administration. As many as 4.6 million people attended various satellite events in the United States that day, according to some estimates. It’s widely believed to be the largest single-day protest in America’s history, per Britannica.

Since then, demonstrations have been held in response to a variety of events, including to protest the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. But the turnout for these demonstrations has been smaller: The November 2nd march in Washington, D.C., drew a crowd of about 10,000 protesters, per the Washington Post.

The organization has also launched a Super PAC called Women’s March Win.

Was there a Women’s March after the 2024 election?

There was not a Women’s March on the day after the 2024 election, but the organization did host a healing event on November 6 via Zoom. Participants needed “a yoga mat or some comfortable place to settle, a blanket and pillows, comfortable clothing, water or other beverage, and a journal.”

“We are mourning. We are grieving. But we are not done,” the organization said on its website. “Tonight, join movement leaders and healers as we take a moment to reground ourselves and restore our energies for the road ahead.”

That same day, Kamala Harris gave her concession speech from Howard University, where she touched upon the future of reproductive rights in America.

“I will never give up the fight for a future where Americans can pursue their dreams, ambitions, and aspirations,” she said. “Where the women of America have the freedom to make decisions about their own body and not have their government telling them what to do.”

When is the next Women’s March in 2024?

On Saturday, November 9, the Women’s March group will host a rally in Washington D.C. in front of Union Station “to build community and power ahead of another Trump term,” per Axios . It will host a similar rally in New York.

Additionally, the group will be putting on a “massive People’s March” in the nation’s capital on January 18, the Saturday before Trump’s second inauguration. The site hasn’t yet been determined, but thousands are expected to show up, per the Washington Post.
