New therapies offer hope for women’s health concerns

CINCINNATI (WKRC) — Women experiencing bladder or incontinence issues have new treatment options available, according to healthcare providers at TriHealth. The expansion of their women’s services programs aims to address these common health concerns, which can begin as early as a woman’s 20s or 30s.

Dr. Catrina Crisp, a urogynecologist at TriHealth, emphasized the importance of early treatment. “Leakage if they cough, laugh, sneeze, trouble getting to the bathroom and then as they get older, other issues crop up, things like prolapse, things not being where they should be – feeling like there’s a bulge,” she said. “We take care of patients in their 30s into their late 90s.”

Dr. Crisp noted that early intervention can provide more treatment options. “Doctors have a habit and so do their friends and family of telling patients oh that’s normal, that’s part of aging, but in reality there’s a difference in something being normal and something being common,” she said. “It is really common to have incontinence or prolapse and that happens to one in three or one in four women – but that doesn’t make it normal.”

Making an appointment with a women’s healthcare provider is recommended as a first step to explore available treatment options. To learn more about Dr. Crisp’s practice click here.
