How We Selected

For the past two years, Men’s Health fashion editors and writers have been trying and testing hundreds of men’s cashmere sweaters. We also consulted with stylish, successful guys on their favorite cashmere knits To narrow down our favorites, we evaluated cashmere sweaters on a number of factors:

Size inclusivity: The best cashmere sweaters offered the widest range of sizes that can accommodate guys with different body sizes.

Style: Because cashmere sweaters are a wardrobe staple, we wanted to find knits that had a classic, timeless style and was made with high-quality material that can hold up after years of use.

Price: In general, cashmere sweaters are more expensive than other fabrics, but we wanted to find a wide range of price points.

How to Take Care of Cashmere Sweaters

Because of its superfine quality, you can’t just throw cashmere sweaters into the washing machine with the rest of your laundry every other week. So wear an undershirt to maintain the quality of your cashmere and other delicate fabrics, such as wool—which we know shrinks in the dryer because we’ve all learned that the hard way. Even cotton, which can be washed, should have a tee underneath, so you won’t have to wash it so often. Without an undershirt, there’s no barrier between your perspiration and your sweater. And in areas where you sweat most (like your underarms), that’s a problem. Just remember that whether it’s the scent of your body wash or moisture from your pits, something is being transferred from your skin to your clothes every time the two come in contact. Dry cleaning is an (expensive) option, but if you wear an undershirt, you won’t need to do it as often.
