Re “Learning to cope with menopause” (Sept. 25-26): Kudos to the editorial staff for publishing the columns on menopause. This is a very important topic as it affects over 80 percent of women.
However, another issue critical to women’s health has not received the attention that menopause has. Did you know almost 50 percent of women suffer from pelvic organ prolapse, which includes the uterus, bladder and/or bowel falling out of place? It can be very painful and emotionally devastating.
Doctors need to start educating women on the risk factors for this like childbirth, heavy lifting or connective tissue diseases. There is simply no excuse for not preparing women for this potential terrible condition. All women should be able to receive the information they need to help them avoid this condition.
Come on, OB/GYNs — be proactive on this topic! Prolapse affects all aspects of a woman’s life and that of her partner too.
